THE HAPPY TREE

(Dedication)

May 19, 2002

I think that I shall never see

A poem as happy as this tree –

That’s because no words can say

All we’d like to on this day

About a couple from up north

Who brought us bliss when they sallied forth,

And brought us energy, ability and wit -

This hard-working duo that never sits!

It’s more like dig and chop and rake and weed

And water and water and water those seeds!

It is their love – this taking care

Of place and folk, of wear and tear;

It’s the shoring up of what needs doing

From social action to costuming;

It’s tending to the kids and seniors;

Making sure we don’t have lean years.

The love they show to those in need

Is manifested through their many deeds,

So let us honor them – this Mom and Pappy

With this tree – a tree called Happy!
