Calling All Poets for Uni-verse Lea Hall's pulpit editorial on November 7 reminded us all that the UUA is stressing the dangers of global warming this year. We'd like to invite all members to submit original poetry dealing with the subject of global warming and/or related environmental topics. Please submit your poems to Ellen Cone at coneelly@aol.com, or Esther Martin at jesterm@peoplepc.com. Shorter poems are easier to fit into Contact than long ones! Here is a poem to get us started, reprinted by permission from the C.G. Jung Society.
ONCE, WE DANCED Once, we danced — under the sun and when we had done we rested our backs on the generous Earth and welcomed the stars — one by one. The songs of a thousand birds were on every tongue and it was good!
Sweet Gaia, we did not know that our separateness would enslave you or that the too-sharp brilliance of our minds would pierce your sides! Now let the river of our remorseful tears wash away your wounds — Forgive us our trespasses and bring us home. Amen.
